December is full of celebrations. Whether it’s for Hanukkah, Yule, Christmas, Kwanzaa, or New Year’s Eve, there’s a good chance you’re partying this month.

Before you ditch the decor, we’ve got to ask — do you know the dos and don’ts of recycling in Orlando? Here’s a refresher.

Do recycle

After a quick clean, these materials are ready for recycling:

  • Flattened cardboard boxes
  • Plain paper like stationery, envelopes, newspapers, magazines, and catalogs
  • Washed and empty plastic containers
  • Bottles without any residue

Don’t recycle

Here’s what can’t go in your recycling bins:

  • Metallic or glittery materials like trimmings, wrapping paper, ribbons, and bows
  • Bubble wrap and plastic film
  • Styrofoam
  • Electronics and holiday lights

Special recycling

  • Live Christmas trees can be set out on the curb once decorations are removed. Don’t forget to cut trees over 6-ft tall in half first.
  • Orlandoans can drop off their holiday lights at 1028 Woods Avenue from Friday, Dec. 26 through Monday, Jan. 19.
  • Cooking during the holidays? Take your leftover cooking oil to a dedicated drop-off center and the city will convert it into biodiesel.
